Sustainable Skincare | How to care for your skin sustainably

Self care is an essential practice. Being able to care for your mind and body is important, but why not care for yourself and the planet at the same time? Read on for tips on how to have a sustainable skincare routine.

Natural Ingredients

One of the worst things you can do to your body is cover it with ingredients that are designed to irritate and upset your skin. Many products on the market are filled with chemicals that actually harm you more than look after.

To avoid this look for companies that only use 100% natural ingredients in their products, like Hello Body who uses nearly 100% natural ingredients in their products. They are also transparent with their ingredient list, and on each product page you can see what ingredients have been used. If you are unsure of what ingredients have been used in your skincare, or the company you buy from is not transparent, then it is probably best to swap to something more natural and sustainable.

Know your skin

Sustainable skincare equals less is more. You don’t need every single cream, serum and oil that companies advertise you. Once you know your skin and the treatment it needs you will find that your skincare routine involves a lot less products.

For instance, charcoal is a great natural skincare ingredient – “activated charcoal is used as a natural ingredient in clean beauty to absorb toxins, brighten the skin, remove dirt and oil, and it is also antibacterial”. (Source: Brightly.eco)

Plastic Free

When buying new skincare products the packaging is equally as important as the product. Try to avoid plastic as much as possible, instead favouring glass containers or companies that offer a refill/recycling service.

For example, switching to a natural deodorant is a great way to reduce your plastic footprint when it comes to skin-care. There are many companies that offer deodorant sticks in recyclable packaging, or deodorant creams in glass jars. Or you could opt for a deodorant refill scheme, like Wild (get a FREE refill case here), which reduces your packaging waste by shipping you a refill of the deodorant instead.

By making positive choices on the above you can ensure your skincare routine is healthy for your skin and for the planet!
