Last week, I shared Part Three of my Sustainable Self-Care series for Stress Awareness Month. And now, as April comes to a close, we've reached the final part of the series where I'll share my final sustainable self-care hack!
Looking after both your physical and mental health is something we should all be focussing on, and if you sometimes find yourself becoming a victim of 'Eco-Anxiety' (which I've found myself to be many times!), this is especially true. Eco-anxiety can be defined as extreme anxiety about current and future harm to the environment caused by human activity and climate change, so finding ways to practice self-care to deal with this type of anxiety is crucial if we want to help make a difference.
Keep on reading to discover my fourth and FINAL Sustainable Self-Care tip to help boost your mood, lessen your anxiety, and improve your mental health this Stress Awareness Month:
Sustainable Self-Care Tip Number 4: Try a New Recipe
When was the last time you treated yourself to a delicious, home-cooked meal and really enjoyed it?
As a student working towards my degree in Global Sustainability Development, I know all too well how tempting it can be to simply throw something in the microwave for 2 minutes or hastily scoff down a Pot Noodle at 9pm because you don't have the time to make yourself a proper meal.
BUT, despite this being the convenient choice, eating unhealthy, processed meals regularly can make us feel worse - both mentally and physically.
So, for my final sustainable self-care tip of April, I'm setting myself the challenge to try at least one new recipe this week. The satisfaction that comes from cooking a meal from scratch is the best feeling, and an added bonus is that it encourages us to get away from our screens for the evening!
I encourage you to do the same, and if you're looking for inspiration for some tasty sustainable recipe ideas, check out this list of healthy and sustainable recipes from the WWF (including vegan and non-vegan dishes).
