I've always loved reading. From a young age all I wanted to do was be curled up with a book, escaping to another world or reality. My love for reading has continued over the years, and now it's one of my favourite ways to learn and develop my skills. I actually think I read more non-fiction books now than fiction!
Yes, there's podcasts and YouTube and just general social media that has made learning even easier, but I just love being able to highlight and bookmark pages that have inspired me. And on my sustainable lifestyle journey there's some great books that I've read to help me make better choices for the planet.
So I thought I'd put together a list of three of my favourite sustainable lifestyle books so that you can benefit from them too!
I've linked each book to Amazon so that you can easily find it, but I urge you to look at second hand book stores and see if you can grab a copy there. Here are two I recommend: World of Books and Music Magpie.
Don't underestimate this tiny book! It's packed full of helpful tips for switching out plastic for more sustaianble, reusable options. The book is based off 2 minute solutions - simple, quick switches you can make right now to give up plastic. What I love about this book is it's easy to read, but still full of interesting stats about our waste to inspire us to take action. You might be shocked about a lot of facts - especially the seven worst plastic offenders!
It's a great book if you're new to living sustainably and don't know where to start, or even if you've been living eco-friendly for a while and are looking for new sustaianble swaps inspiration. It's also the perfect, easy read to gift to friends and family to explain why you're making certain lifestyle changes for the planet.
Never have I read a more beautiful book! I love how colourful and fun every page is, designed perfectly to keep you engaged and interacting with the different tasks and activities. The book takes you through nine different chapters to teach you more sustainable, ethical ways to participate in fashion. Creating a sustaianble wardrobe is something I've been focusing on this year, and even though I've been immersed in the sustainability world for two plus years, I've still learnt so much from this book! Yes, a lot of the steps may seem obvious for those used to the sustainable fashion world, but I've picked up on some new, fun hacks to help me change my mindset when it comes to shopping and fashion.
Just like No More Plastic, Fix Your Fashion is the perfect gift! The way it's laid out means it's super easy to read and doesn't feel preachy. So if you've got someone in your life who's obsessed with fashion and shopping, this could be the perfect book for them to help them change their habits for the better.
This was one of (if not the first!) book I read when I first started wanting to learn more about living sustainably. What I loved about this book is it took you through eight different areas in your life and presented sustainable habits you could follow instead. It also introduced me to the concept of minimalism and how it intersects with sustaianbility - a topic I still find super interesting to this day. I also like how this book was inspired by Madeleine's own journey in trying to live a more mindful and sustainable lifestyle. It made me feel like I wasn't alone on this journey and although I had far to go - it was possible. This book isn't as light as the others, in the sense that it's more text heavy, so maybe better for someone who is already interested in leading an eco lifestyle and wanting to learn more about how that works.
Honestly this list was so hard to narrow down that I might have to do a part two! 😆
