With is being Plastic Free July, what better time to share three of my favourite plastic free swaps?!
Over the years I've tried and different sustainable products and found what works and doesn't work for my lifestyle and budget. The following eco products are items that I use weekly (if not daily) so are great swaps to make.
The key to living sustainably is not to buy every eco-friendly product that's sold to you, but to switch to sustainable alternatives of the products you already use frequently! So these plastic free swaps may not suit your lifestyle and that's okay, but hopefully it inspires you to see where you can make sustainable changes in your lifestyle.
1) Reusable Water Bottle
I swear every post I do on sustainable swaps includes a reusable water bottle! 😅 But that just goes to show how much I love it. It's something that's become a part of my lifestyle, sitting next to me on my desk everyday. Not only does it keep me healthy, by reminding me to drink water, it's a much more sustainable (and cost effective!) way to drink water. So if you're looking for a simple plastic free swap to make this Plastic Free July, then a reusable water bottle is a strong contender.
2) Nuud Deodorant
I started this post by explaining how I've tried different products over the years - some working better than others. One thing I've struggled with is finding a sustainable deodorant that works for me. I did use Wild for around a year but I was never 100% sold on the product. I liked the refillable aspect and how amazing it smells, but I didn't feel fully protected and it often stained my clothing. But that's just my experience - there's so many people who love Wild fully.
So recently I've been trying something a little different. Nuud is an anti-deodorant, which essentially means instead of clogging pores to prevent sweat like your standard deodorants they use an anti-odorant formula that neutralises the bacteria in your sweat that causes smell. Super cool, right?! I found it fascinating learning about how sweat works and feel a lot better that I'm letting my body do it's natural process with Nuud. Their formula is 100% natural, vegan and cruelty free and packaged in a bioplastic sugarcane tube. What's also great about Nuud is it doesn't have to be applied every day! I was sceptical about this at first too but it truly works so well that I only need to apply every 2-3 days. You can try it for yourself with 20% off here.
3) Soap Bar
I may have a small obsession with soap bars... Not in the way that I buy too many, but that I'm buying many of different types. What started off as just switching to a shampoo bar has now become a soap bar, conditioner bar and shaving soap bar! I love finding new products that I can buy in bar form. There's so many different types of soap bars to choose from that it's such an easy plastic free swap to make. If you're looking to create a more sustainable bathroom then switching to soap bar is a great eco swap to make.
