Fairtrade Fortnight 2023 | How to Get Involved in Fairtrade Fortnight to Support Fairtrade

Are you ready for Fairtrade Fortnight 2023?

Starting on the 27th of February and running until the 12th of March, Fairtrade Fortnight is currently in full swing and I’m so excited to be spreading the message of the amazing work Fairtrade do to create better working conditions for farmers all around the world.

In 2020 alone, £169 million in Fairtrade premium was paid to farmers and workers, and it’s through the work of those within the Fairtrade organisation, and those who support it, who have enabled this incredible progress.

Here are some easy and practical ways you can get involved with Fairtrade Fortnight to help promote this year’s campaign and, in turn, help the planet:

1) Make The Switch to Fairtrade

Shopping for your favourite Fairtrade products has never been easier. Thanks to more and more stores stocking Fairtrade, there are now over 6,000 Fairtrade products available to buy - from coffee and tea to flowers and gold!

I personally love indulging in Fairtrade chocolate, and as a supporter of vegan/cruelty-free beauty, it’s fantastic to see so many Fairtrade beauty products that can now be incorporated into almost every part of my beauty routine.

2) Get Involved

On the 28th of February, Fairtrade launched ‘The Endangered Aisle’ pop-up experience in London that shined a light on our beloved supermarket staples that are most at risk of becoming endangered from the climate crisis. Some of these endangered products include coffee, bananas, and chocolate, and it’s devastating to think that some of the world’s most-loved foods could soon be much more difficult to buy.

Although The Endangered Aisle pop-up has now come to a close, there are plenty of other ways you can get involved to support Fairtrade’s mission during Fairtrade Fortnight. This year, Fairtrade is running more Big Fairtrade Get Togethers that you can attend online for free, where you can hear from Fairtrade farmers and other experts on how we can work towards a more sustainable future to protect our favourite foods.

And if you’re organising a local event like a coffee morning or quiz night, you can tune into the Big Fairtrade Get Togethers with your group and get the chance to ask Fairtrade’s expert panel your burning questions on climate change.

3) Spread the Word

If you’re not able to get involved directly in a Big Fairtrade Get-Together this year, there is plenty more you can do to spread the word about the importance of Fairtrade - both online and offline.

Share your plans, encourage others to switch to Fairtrade where you can, and keep up-to-date with all the latest news during Fairtrade Fortnight by engaging with the @fairtradeuk Instagram page. You could also create a post educating others on the campaign to share on your own socials - like I’m doing over on the All Things Green Instagram!

Whether you choose to make a donation, host a fundraising event at your university or within your community or become a Fairtrade campaigner by demanding a fair deal for the farmers and workers who produce our everyday foods and goods, every small action helps. In fact, at All Things Green, “small steps are still steps” is our motto!

As more and more people opt for Fairtrade products, this means extra income, power and support to those communities that are being pushed to the brink. Through the amazing work of Fairtrade, every little helps in improving the lives of farmers and workers who are disadvantaged by our fundamentally unfair global trade.
